First State Bank Aims to Invest in Community

Nancy McDougal is the vice president of the First State Bank and Trust in Basehor, Kan. She manages all bank operations, manages all personnel, supervises, and does anything else that she can, even to the point of changing the lightbulbs.

Nancy is originally from the Basehor area. This is what brought her to work at First State Bank. She felt that other places around this area didn’t have as tight knit of communities, and she missed the feeling that can be found in Basehor. In fact, her favorite thing about Basehor is how everybody seems to know everybody.

Going along with the theme of liking how closely bound the community is, Nancy’s favorite thing about her job is how she gets to learn the people. She loves getting to know the customers that show up at the bank. With her job, however, she doesn’t only get to know the residents of Basehor, she also helps them and the community.

Anything that’s going on [in the community], we try to help with it”

— Nancy McDougal, First State Bank and Trust Vice President

Nancy has been interested in banks for a long time now. Right out of high school graduation, she went to work at a bank. Of course, she’s gone through different levels, but she has worked in a bank ever since. She said that working at a bank was all that she had ever done.

Nancy McDougal is also the bank manager here in Basehor, which contributes to her many jobs within the bank. She has worked hard to receive her position in the First State Bank & Trust, and she enjoys her time working there.

First State does many things to help the community of Basehor. The bank supports the schools, helps with community events, is part of the chamber of commerce, and they help with Dairy Days, an annual Basehor fair of sorts that takes place on the first Saturday of June. As Nancy said, “Anything that’s going on, we try to help with.”
