With the school year starting up again, it is time to get back in the swing of the things. This includes getting this year’s student government, known as Student Council or StuCo, put together. Elections are held every year for the students to elect the officers, as well as their class representatives. This year, the voting for officers took place on Aug. 28, and voting for class representatives was on Aug. 30. Students compete for leadership and representative roles, hoping that the voters recognize their passion and new ideas.

“I chose to run for president because I think I would be a good leader. I am organized and I am open to all ideas and I am easy for anyone to talk to,” student body president Nichole Smith said. “As president I would be in charge of planning things and helping everyone.”

Although the president has a larger set of responsibilities such as planning events, class representatives are still needed to help activities run smoothly. Junior Jake Wilson, junior class representative, hopes to make an impact this year.

“The other members and I will be responsible for the school dances, spirit week and other things,” Wilson said.

Smith also revealed some ideas that could be added to the school this year.

“I want to try and get the school to have more school spirit. I hope more people will participate in spirit week this year. I also hope to have more pep rallies,” Smith said.

Officers were announced Aug. 30 and representatives Sept. 1. For officers, Nichole Smith was elected president, Alyssa Schoenfelder for vice president, Carly Gore for treasurer and Rylea Oliver for secretary. The senior representatives are Madison Werner, Zach Howard, Isabella Nusbaum, Jada Mitchell and Morgan Buchholz. The junior class elected Kinsey Kuttler, Kyla Wichmann, Kate Drennon, Mallory Folsom, Jake Wilson and Addison Gilliam. The representatives for the sophomore class are Lane Barrette, Jaiden Smith, Sami Fisher, Alexis Glezen and Logan Lynn. The freshman representatives are Stella Harrington, Sela Wagner, Savannah Ruth, Amanda Davis and Alyssa Brady.
