The Cheerleading team held a second tryout for the basketball season on Nov. 13-16. Monday thru Wednesday morning, they had clinics where participants learned the cheer, chant, and dance for their tryout on Thursday.

“I decided to go out this winter because I wasn’t doing a winter sport this year, and I needed to do something with my time. I thought to do something that I had never tried before and put myself out there would be good for me. It definitely ended up paying off,” sophomore Delainey Wilson said.

After the resignation of head coach Allie Lippe, Courtney June will serve as the interim head coach for the remained of the year. Courtney June is an alumni and fifth-grade teacher at Basehor  Intermediate school. After tryouts Thursday night, she announced that a combined 15 girls (new and old) had made the team.

“I’m glad that we got a new team. I think that is what we needed for the winter season,” junior Emma Easley said.

With many girls not being on the team before, they are ready to prove their spot.

“I don’t know how the cheer teams have been in the past, but I’m really excited and I think we have a great group of girls who are fast learners and work well with each other,” Wilson said.

The team is preparing for their performance on Dec. 1, during the pep assembly and the basketball game that evening against Bishop Ward.

“I’m really excited to be a part of something like this, and I can’t wait to start cheering at games,” Wilson said.
