Opaa! Offers Online Lunch Ordering

The old method of standing in long lines to get your lunch is about to get a major shake-up. Starting on Nov. 1, Opaa! will offer select items to be ordered both online and through the Nutrislice app.

“We’re starting small to see how it works,” said food service director Della Lucas. “We may add other things as we go.”

Once students are on the app or have accessed the online ordering through the ‘Lunch Menus’ section of the school’s website, they will be able to place an order for lunch up to five days in advance. From there, students will be able to customize their own sandwich in the ‘Fabricate Your Fav!’ section, pick up to two sides or order a la carte items such as chips, Gatorade and cookies. Students on the free and reduced lunch programs will need to pick two sides from the “Fabricate Your Fav!” section in order for the meal to be reimbursed.

“Once the orders start coming in, we prepare them in the morning, charge the account, and bag them up,” Lucas said. “From there, the concession stand will have their order in a bag with their name on it and the receipt.”

Some students have complained or stayed away from the lunch area during Bobcat Hour due to the long lines and the amplified volume of the area. Lucas hopes that the ability to avoid this altogether will help the overall turnout for the lunch program.

“I’m hoping—since the lunchrooms are pretty crowded right now—that it may help a little bit [with the lunch turnout],” Lucas said.
