Longtime Seattle TV weather forecaster Steve Pool passed suddenly on November 22, 2023, from Alzheimer’s disease, according to his family. Steve Pool’s Facebook page had a statement on his passing. The statement is:

“Dear Friends, I am here to share the sad news that my dear husband, my love, has passed away from early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. He fought this terrible disease privately for several years, and with every ounce of his being. He told me multiple times to “never count me out” and we never did. This past week it became too much and he passed away peacefully.”

“We are so blessed to have had him in our lives. He was an extraordinary man, husband, father and good friend to many. Please know that he truly loved his job and this community and felt so privileged to be a part of your lives.”

How Much Notoriety Did Steve Pool Get Before Passing Away?

Steve was one of the first broadcasters in Seattle and went on to head KOMO 4’s weather department. In 1974, while pursuing his undergraduate degree at the University of Washington, he started working as an intern for the station.

The University of Washington tweeted, “Steve’s legendary career with @komonews spanned more than four decades, serving as one of our region’s most trusted weathermen.”

After serving as the student body president at Tyee High School in SeaTac, Washington, Pool received his diploma. While attending the University of Washington, Pool began his career as an intern at KOMO-TV. After graduating in 1978, Pool went on to work as a weathercaster, reporter, and writer.

Pool started presenting KOMO-TV’s “Front Runners” Saturday morning show in the 1980s. Little Steps was a children’s Direct-to-Video series that Pool starred in throughout the 1990s. Throughout his career, Pool made over 70 appearances on Good Morning America and won eight Emmy Awards.

He also published the weather and forecasting-related book “Somewhere, I Was Right.” The University of Washington Department of Communications Hall of Fame inducted him in 2004.
