Girl Code: First Edition

Nearly everyone and their mother knows about MTV’s show Girl Code. The show has a certain “je ne sais quoi’ that charms audiences across America. What is it about a thirty minute broadcast full of witty young women discussing the unspoken rules of feminism that is so fascinating?

Because what they’re saying is true.

Girls hate to admit it, but in general, we are all alike in some aspects. I know I’m not only speaking for myself when I say that having confidence in this day and age isn’t particularly easy.

It’s been said before; however, there is no denying that the key to self-confidence lies in loving yourself. How do you expect anyone to like you for you, when you don’t even like you?!

I know what you’re thinking, “Well, how do I learn to love myself more?”

Does it mean spoiling yourself with excessive shopping trips, a day spent in bed with food and movies, going out and exercising, or what?

The answer: any of those. Do anything and everything that makes you genuinely happy.

Additionally, cut yourself some slack. Be proud of your existence. Women are amazing, and we need to embrace this.

Lastly, do not let anyone make you feel guilty because of your passions, interests, and especially anything that makes you feel happier or more confident.

If you feel good about yourself in makeup, wear it.

If you’re scared to wear that new top you bought that you love, don’t hesitate.

If you’re worried about what people think of you, don’t.

As the great Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

Once you’re happy with yourself, nobody can bring you down. Love your flaws, love yourself and self-confidence will become natural.

Girl code.
