As COVID-19 (also known as Coronavirus) spreads throughout the country and the world people are being forced to go into quarantine with only essential businesses left open. Because of this, people have to adapt to this new way of life. Although many see it as a bad thing, there are many benefits that are coming out of being quarantined as well. People should Start looking at the glass as half full instead of half empty. Due to quarantine families are spending more time together, people are slowing down our lives, and there is less pollution.
With nowhere for families to go, they are staying home with their family. According to Parenting Northern Ireland, (NI) family time is extremely important in a healthy family. It builds children’s self-esteem, strengthens family bonds, develops positive behaviors, encourages communication and can help increase academic performance. Quarantine is allowing families who are typically busy to slow down and enjoy family time with each other.
Being forced to stay at home and only being able to leave for essential needs has taught many to slow down and enjoy the little things in life. As stated on HealthFlex one of the best ways to support someone’s emotional and mental well-being is to slow down and appreciate the little things in life. These things could be small trips to the grocery store, the bank, or even just driving around. Another lesson it has taught many people is not to take things for granted. Hanging out with friends, going to school, and even eating at restaurants are things everyone will be grateful for once things return back to normal. However, returning to the new normal after quarantine could take some time.
Due to people being forced to stay home for a number of reasons everywhere in the world pollution levels have dropped significantly. For instance, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Earth Observatory reports that they have detected a large decrease in nitrogen dioxide levels in China. Nitrogen dioxide comes mainly from cars, power plants, and factories. With these being shut down due to the outbreak of COVID-19 the amount of pollution has gone down rapidly. Consumer News and Business Channel (CNBC) says that quarantine has led to a massive reduction in air pollution all over the world, not just in China. As people slowly come out of quarantine they need to be cautious and try not to return the pollution to where it was before COVID-19. This is one of the many reasons that shows good things have come out of being quarantined.
Families spending more time together, slowing down life and less pollution are all good things to come out of being quarantined. While it isn’t fun right now, it is teaching life lessons and allowing us to learn to adapt to difficult situations. On top of all the benefits that are coming out of quarantine some people are also potentially saving someone’s life by not spreading COVIS-19. Start looking at the bright side and it will be over soon.
