Basehor-Linwood Cross Country 2014 Invitational
The Basehor-Linwood cross-country team kicked off their season Thursday with their home meet at Wyandotte County Park. It was a stellar start to the season, as both the varsity and JV girls teams took first and both the varsity and JV boys teams took second.
Senior Quinnlyn Walcott had the highest individual finish out of all the BLHS runners, placing second out of 39 varsity runners with a time of 17:08.2. Out of all 7 of our varsity girls, none of the varsity girls besides Walcott had ever run at a high school cross country meet before.
However, it definitely didn’t show, as freshmen Rylea Oliver and Katie Fulkerson placed 6th and 8th, respectively. The other four girls on the team also ran well, propelling the girls team to a first place finish.
On the boys’ side, junior Bevin Coon was the fastest Bobcat runner, with a 3rd place finish and a time of 19:25.8. Also in the top ten were senior Daniel Tady, who got 4th place, and senior Casey Jones, who took tenth.
“I think the Bobcats performed very well,” Tady said. He hopes “that everyone will continue performing admirably.”
“Overall, as a team, I thought we were pretty impressive,” Jones said.
The cross country team did a fantastic job at their home meet, but they’re all still looking to improve their times. You can see them run next at the Santa Fe Trail Invitational on Thursday, September 11.
