Kansas City Sports and Fitness Magazine chooses one coach and one player for their sports performance every month. Senior Joey Foster and head football coach Rod Stallbaumer were chosen for the award for Nov. 2017.

The U.S. Army joins up with KC Sports and Fitness Magazine for the monthly award, and they awarded both Foster, and Stallbaumer with a plaque last Friday. He is also a finalist in the Bobby Bell Award for best lineman or linebacker. The winner will be revealed on Dec. 6.

“The season went well all things considered,” said Foster. “I personally had a lot to prove coming off of an injury because no one really expected me to be any good. No one really expected the team to be any good either after we lost so many athletes. With that in mind, my teammates and I trained as hard as we could during the offseason and were able to put up a pretty successful defensive campaign.”

Stallbaumer felt that the award was about the team and not about him.

“It’s recognizing our kids for how well and how hard they’ve worked and the success they’ve had,” said Stallbaumer. “Anytime a coach wins an award, it’s not an award for that coach, it’s an award for the entire program and all the people in it. It’s always nice to be recognized for all the programs put in.”
