On Thursday, Sept. 13 JV and varsity soccer played a home game against the Leavenworth Pioneers. JV beat Leavenworth with a score 0-1.The teams went into overtime where neither scored, resulting in a 2-2 tie.

Varsity Boys Soccer played Leavenworth Pioneers Thursday night ending with a tie of 2-2. This was the boys’ 2nd tie of the season. Junior Gareth Harte believes that if the team continues to work hard they will get better results.

“[We should] practice more, get everyone in good shape and link up together,” Harte said.

Although the team has not yet won a game this season, junior Nate Parkison believes that this year the team will have to work on keeping their head in the game.

“We’re not necessarily weak at either offense or defense. I would just say after a while we sort of lose our confidence and we lose our focus, which brings us down,” Parkison said.

This year, the team has a new coach, Jerimiah Lavelle and Harte suspects that by the end of the year the team’s chemistry will be good.

“I think after our last game, tying up with Turner, our chemistry has been good, it’s just that at the beginning of the season, it’s difficult getting used to each other,” Parkison said.

Parkison believes that the seniors being gone has made things more challenging this year.

“Our most challenging game [so far] would probably be Shawnee Mission Heights because we lost most of our senior players, and we’ve been trying to accommodate for that. Everyone is trying to get used to each other,” Parkison said.

The team is currently 0-2-2, but senior goalie Zach Hanzlik expects a positive outcome for the team this year.

“I expect us to keep growing, and I think we can get just as far as we did last year,” Hanzlik said.

Their next game will be Tuesday, Sept. 18, against Lansing.
