Girls Cross Country Goes to State

The girls’ cross country team ended the season with three state qualifiers for this year: senior Mallory Gallet, junior Qunicy May and freshman Rylee Jones. The girls competed at Rim Rock Saturday, Oct. 27th with Jones in 48th place, Gallet in 52nd, and May in 70th overall.

“The meet went pretty well. [It was] pretty hectic when I realized I forgot my running spikes, but Emma Armstrong and Sydney Noe brought them to me two minutes before the race started, luckily. I felt good during the race and felt as if I could have gone faster possibly,” said Gallet.

While all three qualifiers do believe the season and state meet went well, the girls also believed that there were some weaknesses during their individual performances.

“The most challenging part of today was just staying positive, even when I was not in the top 5-10 in the more recent races. State is a large meet with all the fastest runners, so it can be easy to get down on yourself,” Jones said.

The girls believed that their season went well, and May believes that the company of some of her fellow XC runners at state was a nice touch.

“It was nice having some of the team together again for the last time and getting to say goodbye to the senior girls that came,” May said.

With Gallet being the only senior state qualifier, this was her last meet in a high school competition.

“It was exciting because the team made it. We had new teammates and always enjoyed hanging out and being together, and it was always an ‘adventure’ that made it exciting and enjoyable. Even though it was both exciting and enjoyable, we knew when it was race time and time to be serious and compete; we had that balance of what we needed to do and we were competitive,” Gallet said.
