On Nov. 3, the cheer team competed at Louisburg’s Heartland Cheer Showcase. Teams are scored from zero to 180 points. A “Good” rating is given if scored between zero to 59. An “Outstanding” rating is given if scored between 60-79. A “Superior” rating is scored between 80-100. All teams competing received an “Outstanding Award”, including BLHS. The cheer team also received a special award for best jumps out of all six schools.

“I am both proud and disappointed at our Outstanding award. I am proud that our cheerleaders were able to achieve the same quality as other teams, but I am disappointed in the competition’s refuse to provide a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place,” said head coach Morgan Brown.

The routine took two weeks for the team to learn and clean.

“I felt [the routine] was going alright [during practices], but it could have been better. We started later than we probably should have. If we had more time, we could have made practices less stressful,” said senior Mallary Gallet.

Assistant coach Emily Pierce choreographed the routine.

“I think [the team] all did a really good job. I think we still have some things to work on, but overall, [they all] killed it,” said Pierce.

The routine consisted of a chant, three stunts, two dances, and a tumbling formation.

“For our next competition, we need to clean the dances more and perfect it. We also need to work on timing the stunts,” said Gallet.

The cheer team will compete again on Feb. 9 at Baldwin.
