College Biology Studies Osmosis and Membrane Function

In groups of two the students will observe the life process of plants and their membrane's functions.

In College Biology students hope to learn about the minute functions of the world around them. Even in a tiny cell the process of osmosis determines whether an entire organism will thrive. Today the students experimented with plants and sugar water to see how a plant cell would absorb the liquid.

With such a day ahead of them, Mr. Smalley makes time to explain concepts like Osmosis and then during the second half of class allow the students to see for themselves with a mini lab to help complete the lesson for the day. Without a block schedule, such lesson plans would be impossible. Fortunately students of BLHS have all the time in the world to observe and learn.
